The law on the promotion of access to information

Under Article 32 of the Charter of Rights in the constitution of the Republic of South Africa, Law nr 108 of 1996 ("the Constitution”) every person has the right to access to information. To meet the constitutional obligations, parliament approved the Law on the promotion of access to information, Nr 2 of 2000 (“the law”).

To meet the constitutional obligations, parliament approved the Law on the promotion of access to information, Nr 2 of 2000 (“the law”).

The purpose of the law is to comply with the constitutional right of access to any information held by the state, as well as information held by any person, that is needed for the exertion of the protection of any right.
