Plant Breeding Innovation Regulations

Based on the definition of a Genetically Modified Organism (GMO) in the Genetically Modified Organisms Act, 2006 (Act No. 23 of 2006), the Executive Council concluded that the risk assessment framework that exists for GMOs would also be applied to New Breeding Techniques. Industry contests the recommendation by DALRRD for which no public comment was requested. Agbiz and SANSOR have appealed to the decision by DALRRD.
